On December 5th 2014 the Scottish Drink driving limit will be lowered to 50mg alcohol per 100ml of blood instead of 80mg alcohol per 100ml of blood. But what does this mean for you?
The drink driving limit in Scotland is now 0.05%BAC. People can have different readings to one another even if they have drunk the same amount of alcohol. This is due to a variety of factors including size, age and sex. Furthermore people process alcohol at different rates; therefore the time in which alcohol leaves your body also varies.
There are different ways to measure the amount of alcohol in your system. The most accurate way to test how much alcohol is in your system, affecting your impairment to drive at that given time, is with a Fuel Cell breathalyser. This is what the police use.
Breathalysers read the amount of alcohol in a known amount of breath. To work out how these readings equate to the blood alcohol limit have a look at the table below.
